Corning Glass Works – 1963

The Corning Glass Works complex (most recently AVX Corporation) has been empty for the past year or two. There is a sign on the front door dated 2010, but the place looks like it has been vacant for much longer. According to the EPA, this former capacitor manufacturing facility is a superfund site.

The entire complex is eerie and quiet, considering it resides on a major thoroughfare. There are signs indicating that it is patrolled 24/7 by a security firm.

The exposed steel beams and mirror-finished windows indicate its international style roots. Although the paint is cracking and peeling, the red panels still contain much of their original luster.

According to the NY Times, Corning Glass Works was sold for $67 million in 1987 to the AVX Corporation.
